Why This Matters
When Attorney Amba (Attorney) first applied for citizenship, he couldn’t afford a lawyer and was denied for a technicality.
He then served for three-plus years as a public defender, handling every case for the same flat fee.
Later he practiced corporate law, billing by the hour.

Attorney Amba’s story is rooted in the transformative power of education. Arriving in the United States in 1999 as the son of a farmer from an Ethiopian village—without speaking English—he navigated the public-school system, earned his college and law degrees, and by the late 2010s was standing in courtrooms in Florida and working in corporate law. Today, he runs his own firm, representing and empowering his community by choice and purpose.
It was his family, his public-school teachers, his college professors, and his law instructors who made this journey possible—and he was there every step of the way.
