Green Cards & Adjustment of Status

If you’re already in the U.S., we help you adjust status and apply for your green card with expert support and document guidance.

If you’ve been granted asylum or entered the U.S. as a refugee (or under a similar eligible pathway), but have not yet adjusted your status to a green card (lawful permanent residence), this message is for you.

What is “Adjusting Status”?

“Adjustment of status” is the process by which an eligible immigrant already in the U.S. (for example as an asylee or refugee) applies to change their status to lawful permanent resident (green card holder) without leaving the U.S. USCIS+1
For instance:

  • As an asylee, you may apply for a green card at least one year after being granted asylum. USCIS+1

  • As a refugee, you may apply for a green card one year after admission as a refugee. USCIS+1

Why this matters for naturalization

You cannot apply for U.S. citizenship through naturalization until you first become a lawful permanent resident (green card holder). USCIS+1
That means if you haven’t adjusted status yet, you’ll want to take that step first before turning your attention to naturalization.

We understand that many in our community are daily focused on surviving—working, supporting family, navigating life in a new country—and may not yet have had the chance to think strategically about this next step. Others may steer away because they don’t know where to begin or because the process feels daunting. That’s exactly where we come in.

We’re here to assist you—helping you understand eligibility, guiding you through the paperwork, preparing you for any interviews, and making sure you move forward with confidence, clarity, and cultural respect. We also helped you apply for your green card with an eye toward assisting you with naturalization as soon as you’re eligible. The time to act is now: with changes in policy and practice, the sooner you take this step, the more secure your future becomes as a green-card holder and, ultimately, a U.S. citizen.
