My Practice & Professional Services
Legal representation, professional guidance, and practical advocacy
My practice brings together the professional experience I have developed in criminal defense, civil litigation, immigration law, and community-focused advocacy.
I represent individuals and families navigating important legal matters, advise community organizations and institutions, and provide trial preparation and advocacy training to fellow attorneys.
Across these areas, my approach remains consistent: careful preparation, candid advice, sound professional judgment, and respect for the people who place their trust in me.
My Practice & Professional Services
Experienced legal counsel. Personal commitment. Shared purpose.
I founded Amba Law Immigration Solutions PC with a commitment to providing thoughtful legal representation, practical guidance, and meaningful support to the individuals, families, and communities I serve.
My approach begins with understanding the person behind the legal matter. Whether someone is seeking citizenship, preparing to reunite with family, defending against removal, challenging an administrative decision, or building a community institution, I believe effective counsel requires looking beyond the immediate paperwork or proceeding.
My responsibility is to provide sound professional judgment, careful preparation, honest advice, and advocacy tailored to each client's circumstances.
I also believe in building lasting professional relationships. Completing one legal matter may be an important milestone, but it is often only one chapter in a much longer journey.
That understanding is central to my practice and to the philosophy that guides it: We Have Each Other.
Legal Representation for Individuals & Families
1. Citizenship & Naturalization
Helping you take the next step toward belonging.
Becoming a United States citizen is one of the most meaningful milestones in an immigrant's journey. For many of my clients, it represents the culmination of years of hard work, family sacrifices, and the determination to build a permanent home in this country.
I assist lawful permanent residents with evaluating their eligibility for naturalization, preparing citizenship applications, addressing potential complications, and preparing for USCIS interviews and examinations.
An important part of my practice involves helping individuals who may qualify for medical disability exceptions to the English language and civics testing requirements.
Many refugees and immigrants have experienced war, persecution, displacement, or other significant trauma. For some, the lasting effects of those experiences may include qualifying medical or psychological impairments that make it difficult or impossible to satisfy the ordinary testing requirements.
I have helped numerous clients navigate the naturalization process with medical disability exceptions, working with clients and appropriate medical professionals to identify and document qualifying circumstances.
When appropriate, I help clients understand the medical certification process, coordinate necessary documentation, and prepare naturalization applications that include requests for exceptions under Form N-648.
For clients who do not qualify for an exception, I also provide guidance and preparation for the citizenship interview and examination.
My goal is not simply to submit an application. It is to help each client understand the naturalization process, prepare for the challenges they may encounter, and approach this important milestone with greater confidence.
Services include: Naturalization eligibility assessments; Form N-400 preparation; Form N-648 medical disability exception matters; interview preparation; English and civics preparation; responses to USCIS notices; and related citizenship matters.
Bringing families together. Preparing for the life that follows.
Family reunification is one of the most personally meaningful areas of my immigration practice.
I work with individuals and families seeking to bring their spouses, fiancé(e)s, children, parents, and other eligible relatives to the United States.
Many of the families I serve have spent years separated by distance, immigration procedures, financial circumstances, or displacement. I understand that a family petition is rarely just another government application. It may represent years of waiting, planning, and hoping to share everyday life with someone they love.
My work includes evaluating eligibility, preparing family-based petitions, assisting with the consular visa process, responding to government requests, and helping clients understand the steps involved in reunification.
I regularly work with families connected to communities across Africa, including individuals seeking to reunite with loved ones living abroad.
But I also encourage clients to think beyond the moment their loved one arrives.
Reunification brings its own opportunities and adjustments. Families may need to understand immigration conditions, employment authorization, permanent residence requirements, future citizenship eligibility, and the practical steps involved in establishing a new life together.
I want my clients to understand the larger process, not merely the next form they must file.
When appropriate, I remain available for future immigration matters as families move from reunification to permanent residence, naturalization, and other milestones.
A spouse's arrival may complete one chapter of our professional relationship. It does not have to be the last.
Services include: Spousal immigrant visas; fiancé(e) visas; Form I-130 family petitions; petitions for parents and children; family-based adjustment of status; consular processing; refugee and asylee relative petitions, including Form I-730; and related family reunification matters.
Seeking safety. Understanding your rights. Preparing for the future.
For individuals fleeing persecution, violence, or serious threats to their safety, the immigration process can involve some of the most consequential decisions of their lives.
I provide counsel to individuals seeking asylum and other forms of humanitarian protection in the United States.
My work includes evaluating potential asylum claims, examining the legal grounds for protection, identifying supporting evidence, preparing applications, and assisting clients in understanding the legal process.
I handle affirmative asylum matters before USCIS and defensive asylum matters arising in immigration court, where representation is appropriate and authorized.
I also evaluate potential eligibility for withholding of removal and protection under the Convention Against Torture (CAT).
Asylum cases often require a careful understanding of a person's experiences, the conditions in their country of origin, and the legal standards governing protection.
My approach is to provide clients with a clear explanation of those standards, an honest assessment of the challenges they face, and thoughtful preparation for interviews, hearings, and other proceedings.
I recognize that discussing traumatic events can be difficult. I therefore approach these matters with patience, professionalism, and respect for each client's circumstances.
When language assistance is necessary, I coordinate with interpreters to facilitate accurate communication while maintaining my responsibility for legal advice and representation.
Seeking protection is about more than avoiding a return to danger. For many people, it is also about the possibility of rebuilding a life with safety, stability, and dignity.
Services include: Affirmative asylum; defensive asylum; asylum eligibility assessments; asylum application preparation; supporting evidence development; interview and hearing preparation; withholding of removal; CAT protection assessments; and related humanitarian protection matters.
4. Removal Defense
Understanding the proceedings. Protecting your rights. Preparing your defense.
Facing removal proceedings in immigration court can be an overwhelming experience.
Individuals and families may be uncertain about their legal status, their options, the consequences of immigration court proceedings, and what those proceedings may mean for their future in the United States.
I provide legal counsel in immigration court matters, including the evaluation of removal charges, identification of potential defenses or relief, preparation of appropriate applications, and representation in proceedings within the scope of my authorized practice.
My approach begins with understanding the client's immigration history, the allegations made by the government, and the legal and factual issues that may affect the case.
From there, I work to develop a clear strategy, explain the available options, and prepare the client for the relevant stages of the proceedings.
Some individuals in removal proceedings may qualify for asylum, withholding of removal, CAT protection, or another available form of relief. Others may face different legal questions requiring careful review and candid advice.
I believe clients should understand not only what is happening in their cases, but why particular decisions and preparations matter.
Removal defense requires both legal analysis and a serious appreciation of the human consequences involved.
Services include: Immigration court consultations; review of Notices to Appear; evaluation of removability and potential relief; defensive asylum; preparation of applications and supporting evidence; immigration court hearing preparation; and related removal defense matters.
5. Miscellaneous Immigration Services
Practical assistance for the many steps of immigrant life.
Immigration needs do not end when someone receives a green card, obtains a visa, or becomes a United States citizen.
People may need to renew documents, replace lost records, apply for travel authorization, address errors in immigration documents, or obtain assistance with a new application years after their original immigration matter was completed.
I provide guidance and assistance with a range of immigration-related services that support individuals and families as they continue building their lives in the United States.
These matters may appear routine, but an expired document, an incorrectly prepared application, or a misunderstanding about international travel can create serious complications.
My goal is to help clients understand the purpose of each application, the relevant eligibility requirements, and any important risks or limitations before proceeding.
I also assist families seeking guidance on citizenship documentation, passports, temporary visitor visas, and other immigration-related questions.
Where a matter falls outside my services or authority, I seek to help clients understand the appropriate next steps and, when useful, identify other qualified professionals.
Services include: Green card renewals and replacements; immigration travel documents and reentry permits; advance parole applications; employment authorization matters; citizenship certificate replacements; passport-related guidance and assistance; temporary visitor visa guidance; immigration document corrections; and other selected immigration services.
6. Administrative Advocacy & Appeals
Helping individuals navigate government decisions that affect everyday life.
Government agencies make decisions that can significantly affect an individual's independence, financial security, healthcare, and ability to remain safely in their home.
I provide selected administrative advocacy and representation services for individuals navigating government benefit programs and related administrative proceedings.
A particular focus of this work involves In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) and matters before the Social Security Administration (SSA), including Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
A) In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS)
IHSS is an important California program that helps eligible individuals receive assistance with daily activities so they can remain safely in their homes.
Disagreements may arise concerning eligibility, authorized service hours, assessments, reductions in services, or other agency decisions.
For appropriate matters within my authorized scope of practice, I assist individuals and families in reviewing agency determinations, understanding applicable procedures, organizing records, preparing for hearings, and presenting their concerns through available administrative processes.
B) Social Security & SSI Matters
I also assist with selected matters involving the Social Security Administration, including Supplemental Security Income and disability-related administrative proceedings.
These matters may involve applications, eligibility disputes, requests for reconsideration, administrative hearings, or appeals of unfavorable decisions.
I help clients understand the issues involved, review relevant documentation, prepare supporting evidence, and pursue appropriate administrative remedies where representation is authorized.
2. Family Immigration
3. Asylum & Humanitarian Protection
My Approach
Many people navigating these systems are elderly, disabled, unfamiliar with the administrative process, or facing language barriers.
I believe effective advocacy requires more than understanding procedural rules. It requires understanding how an agency's decision affects the person's everyday life.
My goal is to help clients participate meaningfully in the process, understand their rights and options, and present their circumstances as clearly and effectively as possible.
Services include: Selected IHSS administrative matters; SSA and SSI proceedings; review of benefit determinations; preparation of administrative appeals; evidence organization; hearing preparation; and authorized representation before administrative agencies.
Professional & Institutional Services
1. Institutional Advisory & Community Counsel
Building organizations that can serve their communities for generations.
Strong communities need institutions capable of organizing people, preserving knowledge, developing leadership, and responding effectively to shared challenges.
I work with community leaders, nonprofit organizations, and emerging institutions seeking to establish, strengthen, or reorganize their operations.
My advisory work may begin with a group of community members considering whether to form a nonprofit organization. In other cases, I work with existing organizations seeking to improve governance, clarify leadership responsibilities, develop policies, or establish more sustainable operations.
I help clients think carefully about what they are trying to build, whom the institution is intended to serve, and what structures will best support its mission.
Services may include nonprofit formation planning, governance assessments, leadership roles and responsibilities, bylaws and organizational policies, institutional strategic planning, and practical recommendations for organizational development.
I also assist organizations in identifying operational challenges and evaluating options for resolving governance or structural concerns.
My approach is collaborative but independent.
I bring legal knowledge, organizational analysis, and professional judgment. Community leaders bring their experience, cultural understanding, relationships, and knowledge of the people they serve.
I believe sustainable institutions are built when those contributions work together.
Importantly, my goal is not to become indispensable to an organization. It is to help its leadership develop the structures, knowledge, and confidence needed to govern effectively.
The success of an institutional engagement should be measured not merely by whether an organization has been formed or a document has been drafted, but by whether the institution is better prepared to fulfill its mission over time.
Services include: Nonprofit formation planning; organizational assessments; governance and bylaws review; board and leadership development; institutional strategic planning; organizational restructuring; community consultation; and ongoing advisory engagements, as appropriate.
2. Attorney Jury Trial Preparation & Training
Practical trial preparation from an attorney who has tried cases before juries.
Trial advocacy is a skill developed through preparation, practice, feedback, and courtroom experience.
Before establishing my immigration practice, I worked as a criminal defense attorney and conducted 14 jury trials. Those experiences shaped my understanding of trial preparation, case presentation, witness examination, and the practical demands of advocating before a jury.
Today, I offer individualized trial preparation and advocacy training to attorneys seeking to develop or strengthen their courtroom skills.
My services are intended for attorneys approaching their first trials, practitioners returning to the courtroom after time away, and experienced attorneys who would benefit from focused preparation for a particular case.
I provide individual coaching, structured preparation sessions, and intensive trial boot camps tailored to the attorney's experience, objectives, and available preparation time.
Training may address developing a persuasive case theory, organizing evidence, preparing opening statements, conducting direct and cross-examinations, anticipating evidentiary issues, preparing closing arguments, and strengthening courtroom presentation.
I also offer practical feedback through simulated exercises and focused review of trial materials.
My approach emphasizes learning by doing.
Rather than relying solely on lectures or general explanations, I work with attorneys to identify areas for improvement, practice specific skills, and develop preparation habits they can carry into future trials.
I understand the responsibility that comes with standing before a jury on behalf of a client. My purpose is to help fellow attorneys approach that responsibility with greater preparation, clarity, and confidence.
Services include: Individual trial coaching; case theory and trial strategy consultation; opening statement and closing argument preparation; direct and cross-examination training; evidentiary preparation; simulated courtroom exercises; and intensive trial preparation boot camps.
Across my practice, I believe that meaningful professional relationships begin with understanding and are strengthened through trust, preparation, and shared responsibility.
I do not view my clients simply as applications, cases, or organizational projects.
I recognize that each legal matter exists within a larger human story.
A naturalization application may represent decades of effort to establish a permanent home. A family petition may be the beginning of a new life together. An administrative appeal may determine whether someone can remain safely in their home. A nonprofit formation project may lay the foundation for an institution that serves future generations.
I also recognize the importance of community relationships in this work.
I maintain relationships with community members and leaders who help me better understand the experiences, concerns, languages, and institutions of the populations I serve.
When appropriate and with client authorization, I work with qualified interpreters and language-support professionals to facilitate communication. I value the cultural knowledge they bring, while remaining independently responsible for legal advice, confidentiality, and representation.
My practice is guided by the understanding that I have professional knowledge and experience to contribute, but my clients and their communities also possess knowledge that matters.
I strive to bring those perspectives together in a professional relationship grounded in dignity, honesty, and mutual respect.
We Have Each Other.
